International Energy Conservation Code 2000 - Plumbing Requirements
Specify energy efficient water heaters (stand-by heat loss & fuel efficiency).
Provide heat traps on cold supply to water heaters
(heat trap nipple, u-flex connector, fabricated return bend).
Water heating equipment shall be provided with controls to allow a set point of 110° F. for dwelling units and 90° F. for other occupancies.
Insulate hot water re-circulating piping.
Insulate at least the first eight feet of pipe on non-circulated commercial water heaters.
Hot water shall not be piped to ice makers / refrigerators.
Heated residential swimming pools require pool covers if more than 20% of the heat is from non-renewable resources (solar energy is considered renewable).
Lavatories in public facility rest rooms shall be limited to 110° F.
New buildings are to be considered “unusually tight construction”, requiring combustion air from outside the building.
Seal all penetrations of the building envelope.
